Harris® Tuf-Kut is a composite rod that deposits hard carbide particles, providing the utmost in resistance to abrasive wear. The wetting action and ease of application makes this alloy superior in retaining the carbide matrix. The alloy will resist extreme abrasive and impact applications. To reduce costs, when the carbide becomes exposed, it can be reheated and moved to allow use of the whole carbide chip. The applications for Tuf-Kut are unlimited due to its compatibility with steel, cast iron and copper alloys. Often used to overlay drills, reamers, bucket teeth, concrete boring bits, augers and any tools or parts that are exposed to heavy abrasion and impact. Commonly used in the oil and earth moving industries. Other applications include mining and boring machines, agriculture, dredge pumps, hammer mills, beat pulp mills, brick and cement manufacturing.
Features
Clean area to be surfaced and apply a thin layer of Harris 17 flux to ensure good bonding.
Previously bonded areas need no special requirements as Harris Tuf-Kut will adhere to itself.
Preheat the area to 650◦F before tinning.
Upon completion of tinning, deposit Harris Tuf-Kut to the desired area or dimension required.
To rework an area, cover area with Harris 17 flux
Preheat Harris Tuf-Kut until the material becomes a mushy, semi-molten state, and use a metal pointed object to relocate the carbide so the sharp edges are exposed.
Maxtrix hardness - 220 BHN
Carbide hardness - RA 88 to 91
